  • Went on to become the Pentagon’s top liaison to the CIA and director of the Joint Staff
  • Held numerous senior Navy jobs in budgeting, policy-development, and operational commands
  • Became Pacific Command Chief in February 1999
  • Ran the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA), which focuses primarily on issues related to national security
  • Left IDA under a cloud of controversy in mid-2006, when it was learned that Blair held stock options in, and sat on the board of, EDO Corporation, a subcontractor on the F-22 fighter program
  • Has no previous experience in the intelligence field
  • Believes that CIA interrogation of terrorist detainees should be governed by the Army Field Manual, which expressly forbids "the use of force, mental torture, threats, insults, or exposure to unpleasant and inhumane treatment of any kind"
