This section of Discover The Networks focuses on anecdotal examples of leftwing media bias. These examples are highly representative of the type of slanted reportage that pervades America's mainstream media. Some examples include the following:

* On January 18, 2010, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann excoriated Republican Scott Brown, who was slated to run (the following day) in a special election to determine who would fill the empty Senate seat of the recently deceased Ted Kennedy. Livid over Brown's pledge to vote against healthcare reform, Olbermann said: "In Scott Brown, we have an irresponsible, homophobic, racist, reactionary, ex-nude model, teabagging supporter of violence against women and against politicians with whom he disagrees. In any other time in our history, this man would have been laughed off the stage as unqualified and a disaster in the making by the most conservative of conservatives.”

* On October 13, 2009, Olberman said that without "mindless, morally bankrupt, knee-jerk, fascistic hatred," conservative author Michelle Malkin "would just be a big mashed-up bag of meat with lipstick on it."

* During Barack Obama's presidential inauguration on January 20, 2009, NBC News' Meredith Vieira said: "I think the hardest thing is, is not getting emotional because it is such an emotional morning, you just want to, you want to laugh, you want to cry. It's, it's so moving. And it hits you that you will probably never see anything like this again. It's quite something.... I'm blissful, that's for sure."

* On April 30, 2010, Vieira asked Florida Republican Senate candidate Marco Rubio about his rival Charlie Crist's decision to run as an independent: "Is this a case where he [Crist] has deserted the party, or once again has your party become so intolerant that it doesn’t have room for moderate voices?"

* On February 12, 2010, MSNBC pundit Lawrence O'Donnell yelled at former Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen about his book Courting Disaster: How the CIA Kept America Safe and How Barack Obama Is Inviting the Next Attack. Said O'Donnell: “Marc, I’m wondering about your personal experience with torture. I know you grew up in the richest zip code in America, in the Upper East Side. You went to the only boarding school in Connecticut that I know of that has a golf course as well as two skating rinks. And then you went to Vassar, and of course, like all torture-mongers in the White House, the Cheney family included, you never served a day in the military. Never considered that.... I’m wondering with that background, what is it that gives you an expertise on torture? What makes you love it so much?”

* On September 16, 2010, CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric reported that "primary victories by fringe candidates" had "open[ed] a rift in the GOP." "After big victories this week by candidates of the Tea Party, the Grand Old Party is in turmoil," said Couric. "... Does this mean moderate Republicans are becoming an endangered species?”

* On July 7, 2010, Couric said to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "In a poll conducted a month ago — just a month ago — 71 percent of the Jews in Israel surveyed said they dislike President Obama; 47 percent expressed a strong dislike....To change public opinion in your country, should you be more strongly advocating on his behalf?"

* In her August 23, 2007 profile of "Christian Warriors," CNN international correspondent Christiane Amanpour said: “On [Christian youth activist Ron Luce’s Honor Academy] campus, students must follow a strict set of rules: No secular music or television. No R-rated movies. No alcohol. No drugs. No dating. [To Luce] When I, you know, read that women have to wear skirts of a certain length and guys aren’t allowed to, you know, go on the Internet unsupervised, I mean, I think [of], you know, totalitarian regimes.”

* During a July 25, 2008 press conference with Barack Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Amanpour said to Sarkozy: "The black people in France are very proud and very hopeful for their future. They also live, many of them, in poor situations. And you know, you’ve had your own riots here and protests and disturbances in the Banlieue — in the city. At one point, when we were covering those riots, when you were Interior Minister, you called the rioters ‘scum.’ And I’m wondering whether you feel, today, when you stand next to someone you clearly admire so much, and who has broken so many barriers, that you regret that term or that you wish you hadn’t said it?"
